“I first heard your music back in about 1970 – I was in HMV in Oxford St and they were playing ‘Soldier’ – and I bought ‘Writer of Songs’ straight away. Then, a couple of years later, you toured with Focus, and I organised a bus load from Southampton University, where I was by then, to hear you. A number of us went down the pub after your set, not wanting to hear the main act!”
